We are still keeping up with the Jones's! And they are about to become a family of four. You might remember my first maternity session with Shana not quite two years ago. Out came Memphis a couple of weeks later and we captured him as a newborn... Then again, an adorable family session at six months old, and a fun, fabulous session when Memphis turned the big ONE. I can't wait to meet Memphis' little brother! Stay tuned!

A Day in the Life {family session preview}

Graduating Senior Sneak Peek

When someone feels uncomfortable in front of a camera, it is quite difficult to change that. Trust me, I understand the feeling, it's usually the uncomfortable ones who choose a career of being behind a camera. ;-) But given that Alyssa really had to step out of her comfort zone with me, I think she gave it her all. Her Aunt Jen tells me she might have even enjoyed it a little. :-)

Alyssa and her Aunt took me to Cook Park in Tigard, Oregon for my first time. It's a huge 79-acre park, right along the Tualatin River. I really liked it, i'm glad they took me there, and I will definitely have to come back for the Festival of Balloons. How lucky are they that they live right next door and get to watch the hot air balloons from home every year!?

I LOVE these boys. They are amazing. They're parents are double (oops, TRIPLE) amazing! Sometimes I try to imagine what it was like for them to discover they were going to be parents of triplets (and boys nonetheless!). I wonder how long it took for the immediate fear to evolve into excitement. I wonder how long these parents had to wait for a full-night of sleep again. I wonder what it must feel like for their parents to have three beautiful faces to wash, six dirty hands to clean, three boys to kiss good-night, or to have six arms wrapped around them in love. Must be an incredibly unique and rewarding feeling... perhaps with just a touch of exhaustion. ;-)

Michelle is a loving big sister, an amazing great-niece, a beautiful family friend, and an avid artist, among so many other endearing roles and qualities. She was the ideal senior subject, bringing along with her a few things that strongly represented her interests, personality, and her heritage. One of which; a gorgeous Nepalese dress given to her by her Grandmother. I had so much fun incorporating that special dress into her session, and think the images turned out extraordinary.

I'm so excited to share this sneak peek with you! Kristin and David gave me my first chance to shoot wedding formals in front of the Portland skyline. I think it turned out beautifully, thanks guys!

Like true soul mates meant to be, Kristin and David took every obstacle that came their way with an adventurous and loving composure. Whether it be a 50-pound bouquet or an 80-degree ballroom, together, they rose above it all. And let me tell you; the party did not suffer. I could post an entire blog on the dancing. These people don't let a little air-conditioning malfunction get in their way of a good time.

Senior Sneak Peek: Kelsey

Another sporty, but gorgeous high school senior. I spent the pleasantly warm Labor Day evening roaming around the Pittock Mansion with Kelsey and her mother and sister. I found that Kelsey is a fantastic athlete, incredibly smart, great with numbers, a go-to sister, and a lacrosse star, with a bright future ahead of her. She knows English, Spanish and a whole lot of gibberish, and I am totally digging one of her favorite quotes:

"Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn't be able to fly,

Sneak Peek: Family of Five { portland family photographer }

Yet another family that reminds me why I love love love what I do. 3-year-old Azrael has galactosemia and wasn't expected to live past one month of age. Her family now has portraits taken twice a year in effort to document every step through life. We did two family sessions in 2010, then I photographed little Ari's adoption ceremony. Now, here they are, new founders of Azrael's Wish, a non-profit organization funding research to find treatments or a cure for galactosemia. (For more information, visit http://www.azraelswish.org/what-is-galactosemia/) Even though we've met for 4 sessions so far, I fell in love with the whole family at our first session. It is such a joy to spend time with them and present them with images I know they will cherish, for generations to come.

FAQ's:

What is Boudoir?

Boudoir is a french term that means 'bedroom'. A bedroom is typically the #1 intimate spot to take these types of images in. So instead of using an uncomfortable studio with tons of fake props, we're using a modern and intimate bedroom in a mansion near downtown Portland.

What is a Boudoir Marathon?

A marathon is a day or weekend where multiple sessions are scheduled. This way we can have an awesome location, professional make-up-artist, at the most affordable price for you!

Who gets Boudoir pictures done?

Anyone! Boudoir is becoming more and more popular. Lots of women like to get them done for the men in their lives. Whether its a birthday, holiday, wedding gift, or anniversary or 'just to make you smile' gift! I strongly encourage anyone to participate in a boudoir session for themselves, as a boost of self confidence. Any size, shape, color, personality, just remember that you are fabulous!

How private will my boudoir session be?

During the shoot it is you, me, the camera and the make-up artist. You're welcome to bring one friend, but space does not allow for more in the shooting room.

What if I am uncomfortable with my body, and do your retouch? First of all, you are beautiful. Secondly, my job is to emphasize the positives and to minimize the areas you feel are less than perfect. When necessary, I do retouch images. Before your session, we will have a complimentary consultation where you'll tell me what areas you are more confident with and what areas you are less than comfortable with. If you have question or concerns about retouching let me know.

Do you do nude photography?

Boudoir sessions normally would be "implied nude" at most.. but if you are interested in being completely nude in your images, just let me know ahead of your session.

Do you supply clothing or what should I bring?

No, I do not supply clothing. I'm going to bring a few accessories, but the rest is on you! One thing I want to make sure people are not confused about is that this is not the 80-90's version of boudoir. This is classy, modern, sexy, beautiful boudoir. Bring 2 or 3 outfits. Popular choices (aside from the bubbles, towels and sheets provided at the location) are: lingerie, tight jeans, cute tee shirts, baby doll dresses, chemise, corsets, garters, thigh highs, fishnets, sports jerseys, men's dress shirts and ties, bra/panty sets, thongs/g-strings/sexy boy shorts, heels and fun jewelry.

These are just examples.. bring whatever you want to wear, but please try them on before your session. We want these images to represent YOU and whatever makes YOU comfortable. One thing I do encourage is to stay away from busy patterns. Solid colors are more flattering..but feel free to have fun with the color!

What is Boudoir?
Boudoir is a french term that means 'bedroom'. A bedroom is typically the #1 intimate spot to take these types of images in. In this case we will be in an amazing space that includes the most gorgeous bathroom (see photo above).

What is a Boudoir Marathon?
A marathon is a day or weekend where multiple sessions are scheduled. This way we can have an awesome location, professional make-up-artist, at the most affordable price for you!

Who gets Boudoir pictures done?
Anyone! Boudoir is becoming more and more popular. Lots of women like to get them done for the men in their lives. Whether its a birthday, holiday, wedding gift, or anniversary or 'just to make you smile' gift! I strongly encourage anyone to participate in a boudoir session for themselves, as a boost of self confidence. Any size, shape, color, personality, just remember that you are fabulous!

How private will my boudoir session be?
During the shoot it is you, me, the camera and the make-up artist. You're welcome to bring one friend, but space does not allow for more in the shooting room.

What if I am uncomfortable with my body, and do your retouch? First of all, you are beautiful. Secondly, my job is to emphasize the positives and to minimize the areas you feel are less than perfect. When necessary, I do retouch images. Before your session, we will have a complimentary consultation where you'll tell me what areas you are more confident with and what areas you are less than comfortable with. If you have question or concerns about retouching let me know.

Do you supply clothing or what should I bring?
No, I do not supply clothing. I'm going to bring a few accessories, but the rest is on you! One thing I want to make sure people are not confused about is that this is not the 80-90's version of boudoir. This is classy, modern, sexy, fun, and beautiful boudoir. Bring 2 or 3 outfits.

Popular choices (aside from the bubbles, towels and sheets provided at the location) are: lingerie, tight jeans, cute tee shirts, baby doll dresses, chemise, corsets, garters, thigh highs, fishnets, sports jerseys, men's dress shirts and ties, bra/panty sets, thongs/g-strings/sexy boy shorts, heels and fun jewelry.

Do you do nude photography?
These Spa Boudoir sessions normally would be "implied nude" at most.. but if you are interested in being nude in your images, just let me know ahead of your session.

Yes, a cardinal sin, I know. I did not take this weeks' 52 Fridays image in the last 7 days. Between family life, major computer issues, 2 part-time jobs and the pig sty we call 'home', this week's image didn't make my list of priorities.

However, this is the image I knew I would use if I was unable to create something new.

While in Hawaii in 2008, I shot this image of my daughter in front of our condo at Turtle Bay Resort. Poor thing, she had no idea. What's worse? I continue to humiliate her by having this image framed on my desk.

I will admit I didn't take this shot this week. But ever since I learned this weeks theme, this image wouldn't leave my mind, I knew it was the only way to go. These are the hands of my daughter at age 4 and my Grandmother, almost 70 years old. We have always been fascinated by Grandma's beautiful rings. Inspired, Emmalee started collecting rings very early and it melted my heart to get this shot of them together a couple of years ago.

Forgive me, friends, for I have sinned.

It has been 28 days since my last blog post.

2010 was such a great year, but with the highest volume in DDP's history, it was a very busy year. There was almost NO time for marketing, promotions, seminars, trainings, and most importantly; practice. I can't think of a single time I picked up my camera, just for fun and inspiration, just to play around with one of my greatest loves. This is going to have to change, because one sure way to kill a fun hobby is to create a business. I'm going to try harder to juggle 'business' photography with my 'hobby' photography. I think it's important to keep the inspiration alive and never forget why I started this in the first place... It's one of my greatest passions. It always has been.

52 Fridays
Last year I made a pathetic attempt at Project 365. I should be proud, however, to be the first to invent 'Project 8'... because that's about how far I got. Ack! This year, I am committing myself to '52 Fridays'. Though there may not be time and opportunity every single day, I will MAKE the time to have fun experimenting at least every single week. And I will share them with you every Friday.

Mystery Macro Mondays
Over the course of 2010, the DDP Facebook page enticed hundreds of people to... "like this". We've now surpassed 800 fans, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE corresponding with friends, fans, clients, family through this outlet. It's so easy! If you're not already a fan, please consider. Starting today, I'm going to put a little more fun into the DDP FB page and i'm encouraging you all to participate! Just for fun, i'm going to be posting a new macro image every Monday and it's your job to figure out WHAT IT IS. It's just a good old guessing game, so stay tuned, and get ready to GUESS!

The next 3 months are generally slow for photographers, and i'm planning on taking advantage by soaking up as much family time as I can, giving my home office a big face-lift, and catching up on everything else that got pushed aside through the busy year of 2010. But you'll still see me around.. pushing out those Mystery Macro Mondays & 52 Fridays!
